Who I am
My name is Olivier Gratton. I am a financial security advisor in Québec, certified by the Autorité des marchés financiers. I have guided more than a hundred people through their protection decisions.
I built TonBilan because too many people sign policies they do not understand, or pay for years for coverage they no longer need. Across a grid of 640 profiles we simulated, 47% of those already insured exceeded the need our method calculates. That is not bad luck: it is what happens when whoever calculates the need is also the one selling the product.
Why this site exists
Here, the analysis comes first. You answer about fifteen questions and you leave with your assessment, whether you talk to me or not. No account to create, no payment, and your data is never resold.
The tool contains no artificial intelligence. It is a rules engine: the same answers always produce the same result, and every assumption is published, dated and sourced on the method page. If a figure looks questionable to you, you can trace it back to the official document behind it.
How I make a living
The question deserves a straight answer, because it changes how you should read everything else.
The assessment is free and will stay free. I am a financial security advisor: if you ask to be contacted and we decide together to put coverage in place, I am paid by the insurer through a commission. That is my interest, and you have a right to know it before you read a single recommendation.
That is exactly why the engine subtracts everything it can before concluding that a need exists: your QPP benefits, your group coverage, your savings, your existing policies. A tool designed to sell would do the opposite. And in many cases the conclusion is that you need nothing more, and the tool says that too.

- It is not personalized insurance advice and not a product offer. It is general information for guidance and education.
- It is not a quote: the amounts shown are orders of magnitude, not guaranteed prices.
- A formal recommendation and the purchase of a product can only happen with a certified financial security advisor registered with the AMF, after a full needs analysis carried out with them.
